How can therapy help you?

l love working with people and supporting them to make positive changes in their lives. We all share the desire and drive to be the best person we possibly can and to have healthy, loving relationships.   Sometimes life gets in the way and we get stuck in a moment, a thought or a pattern of behaviour.  Life can be difficult and the way forward is not always clear. I believe everyone can benefit from therapy for personal growth, to live in the here-and-now and to better connect with the things that truly matter to you.

I have experience of working with relationship problems including with siblings and blended families, cancer, anxiety and depression, surviving sexual abuse and bereavement. Having worked in the corporate environment I am aware of the harm that work stress can have on our health and mental well being and the challenges of maintaining a healthy work life balance.  I have insight into the games that can get played out in the workplace and the harm they can do. Transactional analysis is a great tool for understanding behaviour and regaining personal control.

Choosing the right therapist is important.  Recent evidence has shown that the relationship between the client and therapist is key to a succesful outcome.  I offer a free introductory session so please get in touch.

My approach

I am trained in Transactional Analysis (TA) which is a theory of personality that looks at how our past can affect our present and how old belief systems can sometimes get in the way of making the changes we want. It is also a great tool for understanding what is going on when we communicate with others and for developing our own self awareness.

I am interested in the mind body connection and I find that mindfulness and meditation can be helpful particulary with people with anxiety or who have experienced trauma. My therapeutic approach is tailored to each individual. I am Registered with BACP.

About me

l love working with people and supporting them to make positive changes in their lives.

I came to Psychotherapy through my own experience of working with a Professional Psychotherapist.   I ran my own Information Technology company.  I was successful and busy yet something wasn’t right. My work was taking me further and further away from my personal values.  The bigger the challenge, the harder I tried and the less rewarded I felt.  I felt like I was stuck on a treadmill. Following the loss of someone close I realised that I needed  help.   Therapy offered me a pause button.  My weekly sessions gave me the space to get in touch with my real feelings and see how I was using my work to block them out. I was able to step off the treadmill, get in touch with what was important to me and realise that I had the power to change my life.

My training is in Advanced Clinical Psychotherapy at the Manchester Institute for Psychotherapy and I have a Post Graduate Diploma in Transactional Analysis from an Integrative Perspective. I have also trained in Person Centered Counselling, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Life Coaching and Stress Management.   I am a Registered Member of the British Association of Counsellers and Psychotherapist (BACP) and abide by their Code of Ethics.

I have a private practice in Cheadle Hulme and I also work as a volunteer psychotherapist at the Stockport Women's Centre.

I have previously worked as a volunteer Psychotherapist at the Manchester Institute for Psychotherapy Low Cost Therapy Clinic in Chorlton and for Gaddum, a Manchester based mental health charity working on their NHS IAPT (Improving Access to Psychological Therapies) service.

I am married with three grown up step-children.

If you are interested in working with me please get in touch to arrange an initial free session where we can explore how I can help you.
